Nationalism is a an ideology and a socio-political attitude that gives the nation a central and privileged position, based on the belief that one's own nation is the highest value. The emergence of the nationalist Idea is associated with the French Revolution, and more precisely with the Jacobins, leftist radicals, and it was at this time that the term was first used. French Revolution initiated the era of the emergence of nationalism in the Europe history. In the early 19th century it has spread to central Europe and in the middle of the century, to eastern and southeastern parts of Europe. The main assumption is the belief that the self interests of the nation is more important than the interests of individual, scoial groups or regional communities.
