Russian protesters detained at pro-Navalny rallies say police threatened and intimidated them: 'The regime has shown its teeth'

So this week I've read an article about situation of politcial opposition in Russia. The article was redacted by Zahra Ullah, Anna Chernova and Mary Ilyushina, and can be found on CNN web.                    More precisely the article is about fate of supporters of Alexey Navalny and  people who were taking part in demonstration in support of this jailed, famous Russian political oppositionist. The people started demonstrating after public judgement about Navalny who was sentenced to 3.5 years in a penal colony. He is accused of money laundering but , as Putin's opponents say, these are fabricated charges only to get rid of the political opposition of the current president.                                                                                            In the article we can find a few cases of people, demonstrators who were caught by police and brutally interrogated. Police officers tried to make their preys to falsely confess and admit that they are paid by foreign agent. These people were being threatened, treated in very bad way only because they showed support for an activist of the democratic opposition.                                                                         In my opinion this situation confirms belief that prevails in the west that the real democracy in Russia doesn’t exist. After reading this article, I was left with a question why democracy in Russia and other east countries doesn’t work even if it is declared to be democrat country. I think it can be caused by the mentality of the people, who prefer strong power that keeps them  and maybe because of lack of democratic values cause Russia where always country run by strong authority

  1. The second sentence is unnecessary (we can find all this when we open the link) and the style of the first three sentences should be more compact.
Other than that, it's a good and interesting post.
