Sudan: Medical group says five killed in anti-coup protests

According to the Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors, there were five people killed during pro-democracy protests on Saturday and many more were wounded . The mass anti-coup protests are caused by people discontent about situation after the coup when the military had seized power.                                                     Previous authoritarian president Omar al-Bashir has been overthrown by military but after huge protest they were forced to share it with civilians hence the power is held by Sovereign Council. However both groups cannot still get along. Military leaders in new-forming government have demanded reforms from civilian counterparts and called for the cabinet to be replaced. This was dismissed as power grab by civilian leaders. There have been several other attempts by the military to seize power since the coup in 2019. The military supporters accused the new civilian government of failing to revive country.                                                                                       There is still a conflict between those two groups which are trying to save country from critical economic situation – there is a shortage of food, medicine and fuel. On Thursday general Abdel Fattah al-Burhan was names as head of the council and had already dissolved the civilian arm of the governments power-sharing agreement and arrested civilian leaders. It caused latest protest and clashes with governments units. The number of deaths and injured people continues to increase.

  1. If you want to base your post on an article, I had clear conditions:
    1. very briefly describe the content of what you read (and don't copy the original text!),
    2. devote 2/3 of your post to comment and reflection, which should be your personal response to what you have read.
Not exactly what you have done, is it?
